Golf Rules With Chris
Golf Rules and interpretationsView Rule Of The Week
Let’s revisit etiquette and talk about consideration for other players:
- Lost Ball – If a player believes his ball is or maybe lost OUTSIDE a water hazard or is out of bounds, to save time, he should play a provisional ball. The moment players start searching for a ball they believe will take time to find, they must signal the group behind them to play through. They should NOT search for five minutes before doing so. Having waved the group behind to play through they should not continue play until that group has passed and is out of range. This demand of etiquette is often flouted during play at corporate days and at Shumbas. Please let’s observe this. It keeps the field moving at a consistent pace.
- Priority on the Course – Unless otherwise determined by the committee, priority on the course is determined by a group’s pace of play. Any group playing a whole round that is 18 holes is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round. A group going for its second 9 has priority over a group that is playing its first hole on the tenth.
The revision of golf rules and their interpretation has become stricter to the extent that, if a player consistently disregards the etiquette guidelines during a round or over a period of time, to the detriment of others, it is recommended that the committee takes disciplinary action.
Such action maybe suspension of the particular player for a period of time, on the course or in a certain number of competitions. The justification for this is the protection of the interest of the majority of golfers who wish to play in accordance with the dictates of golf guide lines.
In the case of serious breach of etiquette, the committee may disqualify a player under rule 33-7
Rule 33-7 DisqualificationPenalty; Committee discretion
A penalty of disqualification may in exceptional individual cases be waived, modified or imposed if the committee considers such action as warranted.
Any penalty less than disqualification must not be waived or modified.
If a committee considers that a player is guilty of a serious breach of etiquette, it may impose a penalty of disqualification under this rule.
| Tip Of The Week | To Score With A Hybrid Against The Collar By now, you’ve probably realized that hybrid clubs are a lot easier to hit than traditionally shaped long irons. The ball flies higher and lands softer with a hybrid, making them ideal for shots deep in the fairway that require a soft landing on the green. But what you may not know is hybrid clubs are also designed to perform well from a variety of other locations on the golf course. From the rough, the fringe, even the bunker—the hybrid can be an effective tool for saving your score....more »» |
