Albert Chinogureyi..........impressive performance in Masvingo
Albert Chinogureyi, off a 13 handicap, put up a virtuoso performance to capture the 2011 Southern Tour Invitation title. He was consistent on both days and shot a combined gross 164 for a net 138 at Masvingo Golf Club on 20 and 21 May 2011. A total of 64 invited participants took part in what is arguably one of the premier tournaments for Masvingo.
Kevin Khan, off 8 handicap was the runner up on a combined gross of 157 for a nett 141 which was three shots shy of the runaway champion. Emmanuel Fundira, who with Effort Zaranyika set a blistering pace with a record net 63 for the tournament, was placed third on a net 142 after faltering to a net 79 on day two after being chopped by six shots to play off 9 handicap. Ziyad Khan was the best gross winner on 154 over the two days, playing off 5 handicap.
The Southern Tour Invitation has been in existence for 19 years. The tournament is the brainchild of Sport For All Trust, whose main thrust is the fundraising for the less fortunate members of the society through the sport of golf. This year’s beneficiary is Alpha Cottages in Masvingo, which home has more than 60 abandoned children. The Sport For All Trust also donated two mowers to Masvingo Golf Club.
Next year Sport For All Trust celebrates its 20 years in existence and its Trustees are planning to make this event a huge and memorable one.
