Westwood within striking distance of Tiger

Less than one point now separates the world's top three golfers - Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood. The trio will all next be in action at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron after which any of the three could emerge as number one depending on their respective results.

Carl Pettersson - winner of last weekend's PGA Tour event in Canada - has climbed 98 places to 109 in the world following his triumph. The Swede only narrowly survived the halfway cut but then shot 60-67 over the weekend to clinch the fourth PGA Tour title of his career by a single stroke.

Fellow Swede Richard S. Johnson was also a big mover after his dramatic victory at the Scandinavian Masters in Stockholm. Johnson normally plies his trade with Pettersson on the PGA Tour, but opted to head to his homeland to compete and was rewarded when he holed a 30-foot putt on the final green to emerge victorious.

The 33-year-old - who is only 148th on the money list in America and has not had a single top-30 finish since February - has moved up to 189 in the world on the back of his success.

Meanwhile, Edoardo Molinari who finished two shots behind Johnson in third place in Sweden, has risen to a career-best of 17 in the world rankings.

Latest leading positions in the world golf rankings: 1 Tiger Woods 9.97pts, 2 Phil Mickelson 9.24, 3 Lee Westwood 9.04, 4 Steve Stricker 7.35, 5 Jim Furyk 6.65, 6 Ernie Els 5.71, 7 Luke Donald 5.67, 8 Rory McIlroy 5.64, 9 Paul Casey 5.46, 10 Ian Poulter 5.29, 11 Graeme McDowell 4.92, 12 Martin Kaymer 4.86, 13 Anthony Kim 4.86, 14 Robert Allenby 4.31, 15 Louis Oosthuizen 4.13, 16 Retief Goosen 4.03, 17 Edoardo Molinari 3.97, 18 Justin Rose 3.96, 19 Padraig Harrington 3.93, 20 Zach Johnson 3.81
