Claire Minter……a convincing win at Ruwa

CLAIRE "MAMA G" MINTER is the 2010 Mashonaland East/Central Open Ladies champion after romping to a convincing 10-shot victory at Ruwa Country Club recently. Minter, who has been one of the most dominant golfers on the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) circuit in recent years was in imperious form as she played her way to victory in the first provincial ladies tournament of the year.

Minter, who was playing off a handicap of 3 closed the 36-hole event on 154 with the runner-up being Alex Stovold on 164. Stovold was playing off 6. In the A Division, junior golfer Tetenda Mabikacheche was the winner on 175, just edging out the determined Shamiso Makwara who closed on 176.

In the B Division, it was a dream debut for Sarah Kennan who won the division by three shots from Linda Kamalizeni and Rodnah Mutasa. Kennan shot a gross total of 185 while Kamalizeni and Mutasa were tied on 188. However, Kamalizeni was counted in as runner-up ahead of Mutasa. In the C Division, which was played using the stableford format, Allison van Heerden put up 58 points to win by six points from runner-up Precious Mandewo.

The junior best gross score was Batsirayi Tilowakuti's 173 while Mabikacheche's 147 was the best nett score. A total of 52 players from right around Zimbabwe took part in the tournament at Ruwa Country Club. ZLGU spokesperson, Helen van Rensburg indicated that five players came from Matabeleland while three came from the Lowveld with another three coming in from the Midlands province. A total of 10 juniors also took part in the tournament.
