Ruwa Country Club and Golf Estate…..its team maintained a clean start.
Ruwa Country Club and Golf Estate…..its team maintained a clean start.

RUWA COUNTRY CLUB and Gunhill based Police Golf Club maintained their 100 percent start to the Harare Provincial Golf Union (HPGU) B League campaign with identical 6-0 victories over Mt Pleasant and Country Club of Highlands respectively. The result kept the two sides on top of the log with a maximum 12 points after two of a scheduled 11 rounds of league golf this year.

On a day in which four teams registered big wins, it was Police and Ruwa who stood tall and once again delivered dominant performances that should now position them as serious title contenders this year. Indeed, Police and Ruwa, who were 5th and 9th last season, are looking good this year and will now be hoping to keep the good run going in the next round of fixtures at Falcon Golf Club on March 28.

While Police and Ruwa continued with their terrific start, it was yet another forgettable outing for defending champions, Country Club, who lost for the second time on the trot and are now languishing in 10th position with only two points on the board. For Mt Pleasant, however, it is a familiar story and the club, which has conceded both games this season on 6-0 scorelines, remains rooted to the bottom of the log and is the only team yet to register a point this year.

Mt Pleasant\'s neighbours, Wingate Park Golf Club, who had started off with a bang in January also had a day to forget at Ruwa, coming down to earth with a thud following a 6-0 thumping at the hands of Hatfield club, Falcon Golf Club. The defeat left Wingate down in mid-table while their conquerors, Falcon, moved one place up into fourth position.

Also maintaining a good start were Chapman, who posted a convincing 5-1 win over Warren Hills to move up to third on the log on 10 points. The only consolation for Warren Hills, who fell to their second heavy defeat in a row, was that they picked up their first point of the season to at least avoid the ignominy of propping up the table for the second month running.

The weekend was also a memorable one for league freshmen, Norton Country Club who registered their maiden B League victory when they edged Sherwood 4-2. That lifted Norton into a comfortable mid-table position with six points, the same as Sherwood. Royal Harare, who had started off with a demoralising 5-1 loss to Chapman, recovered with a 4-2 win over Borrowdale Brooke. The win lifted Royal to five points while Brooke remained in the bottom three on two points.

The next round of B League action will be hosted by Falcon Golf Club on Sunday 28 March.
