REPORTS SUGGEST THAT TIGER COULD BE BACK AT TAVISTOCK 14-Feb-2010
Tiger Woods…….speculation rife on his return. |
Reports are beginning to surface that Tiger Woods might be making his return to competitive golf at an unusual event -- the Tavistock Cup, a two-day, low-key exhibition which pits teams of touring professionals from two Orlando, Fla., golf communities. TMZ.com and the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post have recently speculated that Woods is strongly considering playing, with the website citing an unnamed source who works for the Woods family; this year Isleworth (where Woods crashed his car the day after Thanksgiving) will host the annual battle with Lake Nona.
Woods almost always plays in the Tavistock Cup, and a decision to make his comeback there would make sense for a few reasons. Despite the event being televised on the Golf Channel, media and spectator access is limited. Players are miked and the mood is light. Chances are good that Woods could return to a competitive environment -- in his back yard, no less, playing with and against some of his friends, without the scrutiny from the press or catcalls from the gallery.
This year's Tavistock Cup is scheduled for March 22-23, which falls two weeks prior to the Masters, the year's first major and a tournament Woods has won four times. Woods, obviously, hasn't made public when he might return to the PGA Tour. He reportedly recently checked out of a Mississippi clinic that treats sex addiction. Earlier this week, Woods's caddie, Steve Williams, told an Australian newspaper that Woods won't play in next week's Match Play Championship.
