The 2009 All Africa Golf Challenge (AAGTC) will be played at Dreamland Golf and Tennis Resort Cairo Egypt from September 27 to October 2, 2009. This championship course features 27 holes and the event will be staged over 4 days. The Egyptian Open has been hosted at this venue for a number of times as well as high profile Arab Championships.
According to the Zimbabwe Golfers Association’s Secretariate, the golfers will be booked at the Swiss Inn Pyramids Golf Resort overlooking the golf course. The hotel offers a splendid combination of golf, culture and leisure and with the resort just a short drive from the Pyramids. R & A are the official sponsors of this tournament.
However, the trip maybe in doubt as the association seeks to raise USD10 000 for the team’s airfares and tour expenses as these are not covered by the Royal & Ancient. ZGA recently successfully hosted the Zone VI amateur championships and has not fully recovered from the expenses incurred in the process. This, coupled with poor receipts in subscriptions from affiliate members has resulted in this predicament that the association finds itself in. Those wishing to donate to this worthy cause can contact the ZGA Secretary, Joseph Sithole on 091 2 455 262 or Golfzone on 091 2 287 722/091 3 779 471 for more information.
The Zimbabwe team consists of Scott Vincent, Nyasha Muyambo, Rogers Jack and Trynos Muradzikwa with Roger Baylis travelling as manager. Obed Dube will travel to Egypt as the current Zone VI Chairman for the council meetings which are held at the hosting country in line with the constitution of Zone VI as defined by the United Nations.
